Our Top 3 Takeaways from the 2019 National Restaurant Association Show

From May 18-21, 2019, the Hitachi High Technologies America team joined restaurant professionals from across the globe for the 2019 National Restaurant Association Show.

Held at McCormick Place in Chicago, Ill., this year’s show was a special milestone indeed as the National Restaurant Association celebrated its centennial event: the 100th year that the largest foodservice trade association in the world has hosted their premier show for restaurant businesses.

Like many other companies in the restaurant industry, we came away from this show with new insights and ideas. In fact, here were our three main takeaways from this milestone event:

1) There were more people on the floor than ever.

Over 42,000 people crowded the exhibit halls in McCormick Place at this year’s show—so much so, in fact, that National Restaurant Association Show Group President Mary Pat Heftman announced that the 2020 Show will include a fourth exhibit hall.

Moreover, this year’s show attendance featured 92 of the top 100 brands and representatives from other hospitality groups.

This demonstrated that the restaurant industry, as a whole, is continuing to come together to pursue excellence and innovations to best serve customers and patrons all over.

2) Food safety continues to be top of mind.

With food recalls on the rise, food safety was a relevant topic of discussion at the show. Industry professionals demonstrated their solutions to attendees, including one noteworthy new companyPathSpot, whose hand scanner instantly detects indicators of E. coli, hepatitis A, norovirus, listeria, and salmonella.

Show attendees also stopped by our booth to see the variety of solutions we have to prevent food spoilage and safety issues. These include the following extremely rugged cloud-based remote-monitoring systems:

3) All the cheese (and ice cream!)

Last but not least, we couldn’t help but notice the variety of amazing dairy products available at this year’s National Restaurant Association Show. Prairie Farms Dairy, headquartered in Edwardsville, Ill., was a particular standout with their delicious selection of products—including their blue cheese!

Conclusion

This year’s National Restaurant Association Show was certainly one we will never forget. We look forward to returning to this show next year and seeing what the restaurant industry has to offer!
